Our Raw Freeze-Dried Treats are created using High Pressure Pasteurisation. High Pressure Pasteurisation, or HPP, uses intense pressure to kill the bacteria and is typically processed at a temperature around 0 °C. (Image of 0 °C, or 32°F in background). We use HPP to manage the bacteria levels for all our raw food, we don’t use heat.
Freeze drying uses the physics of water to extract moisture from food without the use of heat. A vacuum is created which means the water turns to steam at temperatures below freezing. Ice turns to steam and misses the liquid phase. The benefit of freeze drying is significantly less damage to the nutritional value of the food. It also maintains the flavour and smell which is appealing to dogs and cats. Freeze Drying also allows the dry food to be rehydrated easier than product that’s dried with heat.
